AND NOT A MINUTE TOO SOON

So much of today’s news coverage is about the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States. And hey, I’m all for it. I like the guy and voted for him myself.

But let’s turn our attention in another direction. Let’s give George W. Bush one last (and most deserved) kick in the ass as he’s leaving town. Of course, it won’t be the last kick we ever give him. We’ll be taking more swings from time to time as the bill for his extreme incompetency comes due in the months and years to come.

I watched today’s swearing-in ceremony with about 20 of my co-workers on the flat-screen in the café on our floor. Hisses could be heard when Obama gave customary props to the outgoing Bush. None were mine, though I was disappointed that there was no swearing out ceremony for Bush. There’s a lot to swear about when it comes to his presidential failures, and as a country, we should be entitled to that.

Obama pretty much shredded Bush’s legacy by noting that the country that he’d just taken the reins of was in crisis. Thanks for nothing, Dubya. (Actually, nothing woulda been better than the eight years of bungling known as the Bush administration.)

Much will be written when it comes to Bush 43’s legacy. Bush 41… well, he barfed on some Japanese guys when they were throwing a dinner in his honor. The gesture was not exactly honorable, nor was it preventable, given that he had the flu at the time.

But that was about the worst you could say about Bush 41. We won the war he started, you may recall, at relatively little cost to the country or mankind. It’s amazing what a little pre-planning can do.

Bush 43, on the other hand… fucked up the country in a somewhat pre-meditated way. At least you can take barfed-on tuxedos to the dry cleaners. A fucked-up country will take more that just some Shout and some elbow grease. It’ll take someone who knows what they’re doing and how to get it done — two things (of many) Bush 43 did not know.

Good riddance, Dubya. Don’t let the helicopter door smack ya in the ass on the way outta town. And you can cram that spin-job of a book yer gonna write straight up your ass. We’re not interested.

If there’s any justice in the world, the new facility they’re building on the campus of Southern Methodist University should be called the “George Dubya Bush Liberry.” ‘Cause you know that’s how he pronounces it.
