[This was

Just
missed the Obama motorcade. He's in LA for a fundraiser in Beverly Hills
Got on
the elevator at work during lunch and saw 2 friends. They said the president
was about to drive by and they were headed out to the corner of San Vicente and
Wilshire to see him. I went out there with them and stood around for a coupla
minutes.
Sure
enough, they had all the streets blocked off, just like in the movies. Either
it’s for the president or it’s some hidden camera kind of reality show. [Look
for me in the segment called “Let’s See How Many Idiots We Can Get To Leave
Work And Stand Out On The Street.”]
Indeed,
there were lots of folks out there in anticipation; most had cell phones in
hand. You’d think they’re taking pictures of El Presidente. But I know better.
They’re really getting ready to Tweet or Facebook their ass off with some kind
of “Da Prez jus' rolled thru here” post.
Hey, I
don't know when he’s coming, so I go back upstairs to resume my life, lest I
end up standing out there 30 minutes or more waiting for what will really only
be a light thrill that will last all of about 5 seconds.
I mean,
no 35-mph high five or nothing’? I like the guy, but I got a little more going
on in my life to watch somebody’s car go by, leader-of-the-free world or not.
If he wants
to stop and shoot some hoops with me, I’m happy to wait for him out on the street. But a simple
drive-by in Limo One I can’t really prioritize over getting back to work.
Sure
enough, I stepped off the elevator on my floor just in time to see everyone
looking out the window and going "there he is." By the time I got to
the window, he was gone. Had I stood out on the street another 60 seconds, I
would have seen him.
Oh, well.
Hey, it’s L.A. He’ll be back for mo’ cash soon, I’m sure.
Were you with me in Chicago when I saw then-President Clinton's limo sail past? Same thing: five seconds and he was gone like Michael Richard's career...
